Zusammenfassung
Die in Kapitel 2 dargestellten theoretischen Ansätze der Columbia- und Michigan-Schule hatten nicht nur in Deutschland großen Einfluß auf die Entwicklung der Wahlforschung, sondern auch in allen anderen europäischen Demokratien. Zunächst wurden in einigen Ländern nach dem Vorbild der Columbia School Wahlstudien in Angriff genommen (z. B. in Großbritannien und in den Niederlanden). Sehr bald dominierten jedoch die Einflüsse der Michigan School, vor allem weil das dortige Survey Research Center und später das ICPR (International Center for Political Research) in Ann Arbor zu einer Art Mekka der politischen Verhaltensforschung wurde. Viele europäische Wahlforscher zog es, zumindest in den sechziger und siebziger Jahren, in die Ann Arbor Summer School, in der keine geringeren als Angus Campbell, Philipp Converse, Warren Miller und Donald Stokes lehrten. Neben den theorethischen Ansätzen wurden dort auch die Techniken der Datenerhebung und der Datenanalyse vermittelt.
