Zusammenfassung

Der Sudan ist das größte Land in Afrika und bedeckt eine Fläche von 2,5 Millionen Quadratkilometern. Nach dem letzten Zensus von 1993 wurde die Bevölkerung auf 28 Millionen Menschen geschätzt, davon 49,3 Prozent Frauen und 51,7 Prozent Männer. 1993 war der Anteil an Analphabeten bei den Frauen mit 58,8 Prozent höher als bei den Männern (44,8 Prozent). In städtischen Regionen allerdings nehmen Frauen durchaus ihr Recht wahr, Bildungsinstitutionen zu besuchen.
