Zusammenfassung
Managed Care führt zu einer deutlichen Steigerung der Anzahl unterschiedlicher institutioneller Arrangements. Aus der ehemaligen „cottage-industry“ im Gesundheitswesen wird zunehmend eine ausdifferenzierte Dienstleistungsbranche mit den unterschiedlichsten Anbietern. Die Entwicklung weg von der simplen Zweiteilung von Leistungserstellung und -finanzierung hin zu dieser Vielzahl unterschiedlicher Organisationsformen hat verschiedene Gründe. Im Folgenden sollen die wichtigsten Zielsetzungen aufgezeigt und anhand von konkreten Beispielen erläutert werden:

Verringerung der Transaktionskosten,

Nutzung von Skalenerträgen,
-
Aufbau von Marktmacht als Abwehrstrategie,

Diversifikation in einen entstehenden Beratungsmarkt,

Schaffung von Investitionsmärkten und

Schaffung von Wahlmöglichkeiten.
