Bedingungen der »Sensibilität« gegenüber Informationen über umweltbedingte Gesundheitsgefahren — Ergebnisse einer Pilotstudie

Zusammenfassung

In letzter Zeit gibt es zunehmend Hinweise dafür, daß gesundheitliche Beeinträchtigungen nicht nur durch physikalische, chemische und biologische Umweltfaktoren möglich sind, sondern auch durch Informationen über deren potentielle gesundheitsschädliche Wirkun (Drottz-Sjöberg/Sjöberg 1990; Colligan u. a. 1982; Kofler 1986, 1989; Lercher 1988; Hatch u. a. 1991; Hazard 1991, 1993; Neutra u. a. 1991; Unterbruner 1991; Alexandrowski u. a. 1992). Die Sorge um die Möglichkeit, selbst »vergiftet« oder »verseucht« zu werden, scheint gesundheitlich nachteilige Reaktionen hervorzurufen. Die Umweltmedizin ist gefordert, diagnostische Kriterien zu entwickeln, um diese Form von gesundheitlich nachteiligen Reaktionen erkennen und sachgerecht behandeln zu können. Zwei Ursachenkomplexe spielen eine Rolle bei der Entstehung solcher Reaktionen: Informationen, die auf ein Gesundheitsrisiko aus der Umwelt aufmerksam machen, auf der einen Seite und persönliche Einstellungen, Kenntnisse, Erfahrungen und Verhaltensweisen, die bei der Aufnahme und der Verarbeitung solcher Informationen von Bedeutung sind, auf der anderen (vgl. Abbildung 1).
