Zur Erneuerung einer Tradition soziologischer Forschung

Die Analyse sozialer Ungleichheit

Zusammenfassung

Seit in der zweiten Hälfte des 19. Jahrhunderts soziale Mobilität zum Gegenstand ernstzunehmender soziologischer Diskussion avancierte, wurde ihre Untersuchung von verschiedenen, oft widersprüchlichen Interessen begünstigt. Somit sollte auch eine entsprechende Vielfalt in den begrifflichen und methodologischen Ansätzen nicht überraschen, die jene sich zu eigen gemacht haben, die sich aktiv an der Erforschung und Analyse von Mobilität beteiligt haben (van Heek 1956; Mayer 1979; Goldthorpe 1980: Kap 1). Ein grundlegender begrifflicher Gegensatz, der auf Interessenunterschiede zurückzuführen ist und sich direkt auf die Verfahrensweise auswirkt, ist der Ausgangspunkt der vorliegenden Abhandlung. Dieser Gegensatz bezieht sich auf den Zusammenhang, aufgrund dessen Mobilität definiert — und somit auch beobachtet — wird; es handelt sich, kurz gesagt, um den Meinungsunterschied zwischen den Soziologen, für die Mobilität innerhalb einer Klassenstruktur vorkommt, und jenen, die sich Mobilität innerhalb einer sozialen Rangordnung vorstellen. Für erstere hängt Mobilität mit sozialen Positionen zusammen, die durch eine Analyse der Beziehungen, die innerhalb von Märkten — vor allem Arbeitsmärkten — und Produktionseinheiten vorherrschen, bestimmt werden können. Für letztere hängt Mobilität hingegen mit sozialen Gruppierungen zusammen (entweder solchen, die auf bestimmte Art und Weise, oder jenen, die nur willkürlich unterschieden werden), die nach Merkmalen ihrer Mitglieder wie Status, Einkommen, Bildung usw. eingestuft werden.
