Zusammenfassung

Nur zwei Wochen nach seiner Amtseinführung legte Eisenhower in seiner ersten „State of the Union Message“ den Vertretern beider Häuser des Kongresses seine finanz-, außen- und sicherheitspolitischen Vorstellungen dar. Darin nahm er in kämpferischer Rhetorik die Herausforderungen des Kalten Krieges an und betonte:

„[... T] The free world cannot indefinitely remain in a posture of paralyzed tension, leaving forever to the aggressor the choice of time and place and means to cause greatest hurt to us at least cost to himself“1
