Optimization of Polymer Inverted-Rib-Waveguides by the Finite Element Method

The inverted rib-waveguide is a commonly used design of polymer strip waveguides. In order to calculate the optical properties of these devices a computer program on the basis of the finite element method (FEM) was developed. Starting with the calculated optical near fields the attenuation by scattering was estimated.
