Zusammenfassung
Auktionen sind institutionalisierte Verfahren zur Preisbildung, die sich in unterschiedlichen Formen und den unterschiedlichsten Arenen präsentieren. Auktionen für Wertpapiere, für Blumen und für seltene Kunstgegenstände zählen zu den bekanntesten Beispielen. Bereits vor mehr als 10 Jahren haben Wissenschaftler die Ausbreitung von elektronischen Auktionen und, allgemeiner, elektronischen Märkten prognostiziert, doch empirisch war dieser Effekt bisher nur begrenzt nachweisbar. Die Popularität des World Wide Web, die geringen Kommunikationskosten und die damit erzielbare Transparenz von Angeboten haben nun zu einer Flut von elektronischen Auktionsveranstaltungen geführt, die als Indiz für eine Ausweitung marktlicher Koordinationsformen gewertet werden können. Suchmaschinen wie Yahoo! listen Hunderte von Auktionsveranstaltungen, und erfolgreiche Beispiele wie ricardo (http://www.ricardo.de), Alando/eBay http://www.alando.de, AndSold http://www.andsold.de und OnSale http://www.onsale.com veranschaulichen das wirtschaftliche Potential dieser Vertriebsform.
