Abstract
The ultimate criterion of the value of a product is its selling price. This price includes not only the direct or manufacturing cost, but also many indirect or overhead costs like administration, sales, research and development, maintenance, etc. The manufacturing costs can be reduced and controlled by the right choice of materials, design, and manufacturing processes. Indirect costs however may be more difficult to control. Careful and constant monitoring of costs is required, if the total cost is to be kept within manageable limits.
