Sei G = (M,*) ein Monoid und e Einselement von G. G heißt Gruppe, falls zu jedem a ∈ M ein inverses Element b ∈ M existiert mit a * b = b * a = e. Anstelle von b notiert man in der Regel das Inverse von a mit a -1.
