Introduction of Passive Shock Control in an Interactive Boundary Layer Method

  • Chapter
EUROSHOCK - Drag Reduction by Passive Shock Control

Part of the book series: Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics (NNFM) ((NONUFM,volume 56))

Summary

Objective of this research program was to examine the capability to predict flows around transonic airfoils with passive Shock wave - Boundary Layer Interaction Control (SBLIC), that is performed by using a porous cavity located in the shock region. Its simulation has been obtained by using the inviscid flow/boundary layer interaction model, improved by the introduction of a proper ventilation through the airfoil surface. Concerning the inviscid flow, the Euler model has been considered, while an integral method for the boundary layer has been used for accuracy and computing time reasons.
