Passive Control of Shock Wave - Boundary Layer Interaction and Porous Plate Transpiration Flow

  • Chapter
EUROSHOCK - Drag Reduction by Passive Shock Control

Part of the book series: Notes on Numerical Fluid Mechanics (NNFM) ((NONUFM,volume 56))

Summary

The work carried out at Karlsruhe University in the Institut für Strömungslehre und Strömungsmaschinen (ISS) within the frame of the EUROSHOCK project consists of three independent parts: an experimental analysis of a flow through a porous plate, an experimental investigation of passive control effects on shock boundary layer interaction for different kinds of porosity and 2-D numerical simulations of the interaction.

A new model for transpiration flow description has been proposed. The measurements indicated an induction of separation by passive control and no effect of the used porosity kinds. Numerical simulations showed very good agreement with experiments except for some small details and have proven the usefulness of the proposed modelling of porous wall flow.
