Der Telekommunikationsmarkt, insbesondere aber der Mobilfunkmarkt, nimmt Einfluss auf alle Bereiche des Lebens. Das Handy ist schon jetzt aus dem täglichen Leben als persönlicher „Konmiunikationsbegleiter“ nicht mehr wegzudenken. Der Mensch hat sich mit SMS, E-Mail, privater Homepage und nichtkommerziellen Gemeinschaften (Communities) sein Kommunikationsnetzwerk geschaffen. Der Mobilfunk hat neue Gewohnheiten, ja eine neue Lebensform hervorgebracht.
