Zusammenfassung
Eines der in vielen Ländern am meisten diskutierten Probleme, die mit dem Bereich der politischen Kommunikation zusammenhängen, ist die Zukunft des demokratischen Prozesses angesichts der Herausforderungen, welche der sich ausbreitende und zunehmende Gebrauch der neuen Informations- und Kommunikationstechnologien mit sich bringt. Die Haltungen, die von Kommentatoren, Politikern und Wissenschaftler zu den möglichen Folgen der Einrichtung der neuen Informations-Superdatenautobahnen und zu allen dazugehörigen ‘plug-ins’ eingenommen werden, reichen von der Beschreibung von Katastrophenszenarien, die das Ende der modernen repräsentativen Demokratien heraufbeschwören, über Skepsis bis hin zu enthusiastischen Lobeshymnen auf die Geburtsstunde einer neuen, elektronischen polis.
