Abstract

The banking market has undergone substantial changes in recent years and the traditional banking landscape has changed in many countries. Post war banking in Europe was synonymous with highly regulated markets and in many cases direct or indirect government control. Stability of ownership and a strong local focus were desired and encouraged.
