Abstract

Laser-optical methods for determining tropospheric OH concentrations are based on the absorption of resonance radiation by the OH radicals. The interfering effects, saturation and self-generating, which are encountered in the method of laser-induced fluorescence (LIF) are discussed with respect to the applicability of this method. An absorption method is introduced as an alternative. An interference effect due to SO2 is described and experimental results for tropospheric OH and SO2 are presented.
