Zusammenfassung
Im Unterschied zu westlichen Kulturen sind in Georgien viele alltägliche Anlässe durch einen hohen Ritualisierungsgrad2 und Kunstcharakter gekennzeichnet. Bei jedem Essen mit Gästen wird von einer Art Zeremonienmeister, dem Tamada, eine kanonisierte Trinkspruchordnung abgearbeitet, bei der es wesentlich darum geht, den Anwesenden zu huldigenen und eigene soziale Beobachtung und eigenes Redetalent zur Schau zu stellen (Kotthoff 1995a). Als guter Tamada kann der Mann die Ehre der gesamten Familie erhöhen. Auf dem Land finden wir noch verschiedene Formen verbaler Duelle, bei denen die Sprecher ihr Ausdrucksvermögen nutzen, um Rechte zu erkämpfen, Unrecht sichtbar zu machen, Ehen anzubahnen und auch einfach, um Runden von Menschen mit Angriffsspielen zu unterhalten (Kotthoff 1995b). Alle erwähnten Rituale sind Gattungen der moralischen Kommunikation (Bergmann/Luckmann 1994) und der verbalen Kunst (Bauman 1978; Tannen 1993). Sie verlangen eine theatralische Darbietungsorientierung und werden auch später nach Darbietungskriterien von den Anwesenden beurteilt.
