Abstract
Since the Second World War there has been a pharmaceutical revolution both in the variety and range of medications which are now available. This has brought immense benefit to patients of all ages including the elderly. These benefits have been ‘bought’ at the expense of an increase in adverse drug reactions in older people (referred to later in the symposium) and also in financial expenditure.
