Somit ist sie auch ein Thema der Katastrophen-Theorie [Arnold 1984 B, Poston & Steward 1978 B, Thom 1975 B]. Die vermutlich ersten expliziten Untersuchungen der Bifurkation wurden von Poincaré durchgeführt [Poincaré 1885 Z, Tu 1992 B].
