Zusammenfassung
Die Marktforschungsbranche, die erst Mitte der 1920er Jahre etwa zeitgleich in den USA (1923 Gründung von A.C. Nielsen) und in Europa (1925 Gründung des Instituts für Wirtschaftsbeobachtung der deutschen Fertigware als Vorläuferinstitution der GfK) entstand, hat vor allem ab den 1980er Jahren eine dynamische Entwicklung durchlaufen. Betrug der Marktforschungsmarkt im Jahr 1989 weltweit 5,02 Mrd. € (vgl. Oostveen/Pilling 1990), waren es im Jahr 2003 bereits 16,75 Mrd. € (vgl. Vonk 2004), und damit das 3,3-fache. Das entspricht einer jährlichen Steigerung von ca. 9%.
