Abstract

We present some old and new ideas and developments in the problem of global modelling of the Earth’s magnetic and paleomagnetic fields. Special attention is paid to the paleomagnetic case. Modelling of insufficient and nonuniformly scattered data required the introduction of a new technique for solving the Least (±) Squares Problem arising from the “global data fitting”.
