Zusammenfassung

Um sich von den internationalen Wechselkursschwankungen etwas abzukoppeln und den Handel berechenbarer zu machen, hatte vor allem der ehemalige Bundeskanzler Helmut Schmidt zusammen mit dem damaligen französischen Staatspräsidenten Giscard d’ Estaing die europäische Währungsschlange forciert, die 1979 zum europäischen Währungssystem wurde und die letztlich zur Generierung des Euro geführt hat.
