Zusammenfassung

Die Tatsache, daß es in der soziologischen Fachsprache den Begriff der ‘praxisorientierten Sozialforschung’ gibt, ist ein Zeichen dafür, daß sich diese wissenschaftliche Tätigkeit von der sogenannten disziplinorientierten Sozialforschung unterscheidet. Bevor auf den Wertkontext praxisorientierter Sozialforschung eingegangen wird, ist es notwendig, einige Unterschiede zwischen praxisorientierter und disziplinorientierter Sozialforschung näher zu erläutern1. Ein wichtiger Unterschied liegt im Prozeß der Wissensanwendung. Ein Beispiel dafür ist der Effekt disziplinorientierter Sozialforschung, der oft mit Begriffen wie ‘enlightenment’ oder Aufklärung umschrieben wird (Janowitz 1971; Weiss 1978; Weiss und Bucuvalas 1980). Weiss (1978) zufolge hat ‘enlightenment’ einen dreifachen Einfluß auf die Verwaltungspolitik: Revision veralteter Auffassungen, Neuformulierung der Ziele, Neuordnung der Prioritäten. In den U.S.A., wo die Rolle der Sozialwissenschaften hauptsächlig auf den Unterricht beschränkt ist, wird diese aufklärende Funktion der Sozialforschung oft als einzige beobachtet — sogar in Kreisen praxisorientierter Wissenschaftler (Caplan 1976). Diese Auffassung geht allerdings an der Tatsache vorbei, daß praxisorientierte Sozialforschung immer mehr im Rahmen eines sogenannten ‘beratenden’ Modells der Wissensübertragung benutzt wird.
