Zusammenfassung
Da Simulationsmodelle zur Analyse von Problemen der Gesamtunternehmung bisher in größerem Umfang nur in den USA entwickelt und eingesetzt worden sind, beschränken sich die vorliegenden empirischen Untersuchungen im wesentlichen auf dieses geographische Gebiet (1). Dabei ist der bei weitem größte Anteil dieser Arbeit von Gershefski geleistet worden (2), der auch die bis heute einzige umfassende Umfrage zu diesem Themenkreis durchgeführt hat. Seine Schlußfolgerungen stützen sich auf Antworten von 323 Unternehmen, womit 17% der angesprochenen Firmen geantwortet hatten (3).

Mattessich hat diesen Unterschied bewußt akzeptiert, weil er das Konzept umfassender Unternehmensmodelle für zu teuer und kompliziert und daher auch für unpraktikabel hielt (141). Dennoch bezeichnet er genau die Ansatzpunkte für den späteren Ausbau des Modells (142). Im Endstadium dieser Modellerweiterung dürfte sich allerdings kaum noch e in Unterschied zur Komplexität der oben beschriebenen Unternehmensmodelle ergeben, ohne daß dabei jedoch in der Struktur des Ansatzes der prinzipielle Übergang vom mechanisierten Rechnungswesen (“computerized budget system”) zum ablauforientierten Unternehmensmodell (“behavior or flow of individual entities”) vollzogen wird. Entsprechend bleibt auch die Frage, wie das Modell auf die für die Aufgabenstellung wesentlichen Elemente reduziert werden kann, unbeantwortet.
