Zusammenfassung
Eines der bedeutendsten Probleme in der Konsumentenverhaltensforschung ist die Operationalisierung und fehlerfreie Messung der zugrundeliegenden (latenten) Variablen. Da eine vollständig fehlerfreie Messung latenter Variablen aber im strengen Sinne gar nicht möglich ist, werden Methoden eingesetzt, die zumindest den Anteil der Messfehler in den Beobachtungsvariablen auf statistischem Wege kontrollieren. Für diese Aufgabe hat sich in den vergangenen drei Jahrzehnten die Strukturgleichungsmethodologie (SEM) als leistungsfähiges Instrument durchgesetzt. Sie erlaubt es, den Messfehleranteil in beobachtbaren Variablen zu kontrollieren und gleichzeitig die Beziehungsstruktur zwischen latenten Variablen um den Messfehler bereinigt zu schätzen. In den führenden Journalen des Marketing und der Konsumentenforschung ist es deshalb heute kaum noch möglich, einen empirischen Artikel zu platzieren, der keine Messfehlerkontrolle bei den zugrundeliegenden Variablen über ein statistisches Verfahren durchführt. Als Gründe für diese Entwicklung sind vor allem die im Marketing vorliegenden Arbeiten zur Messfehlerproblematik bei latenten Variablen in der Marketingforschung (Bagozzi 1980, Hildebrandt 1983) und die Entwicklung leistungsfähiger Software zur Analyse psychologischer Daten zu nennen. Mit den Publikationen von Bagozzi (1980) und einem Sonderheft des Journal of Marketing Research (Vol. XIX, 1982) wurde das Programm Lisrel (Linear Structural RELations, Jöreskog & Sörbom 1981, 2003) zum Standard für die Analyse von latenten Variablen im Marketing. Während dieser Ansatz anfänglich nur mit der schwer zu nutzenden pfadanalytischen Software LVPLS (Lohmöller 1984) und dem Programm EQS (Bentier 1995) konkurrieren musste, hat sich die Situation heute verändert.
