Zusammenfassung

Als vor zehn Jahren im Osten Europas und im sowjetischen Teil Asiens die staatssozialistische Ordnung zusammenbrach, blickten nicht nur Dissidenten und Normalbürger optimistisch in die Zukunft. Auch zahlreiche Wirtschaftexperten gingen die anstehenden Reformvorhaben mit großer Zuversicht an. Dagegen richteten Sozialwissenschaftler von Anfang an ihr Augenmerk auf die Risiken, die sie aus der Gleichzeitigkeit von politischer und ökonomischer Systemtransformation erwachsen sahen. Ihre systematische Skepsis bezog sich insbesondere auch auf die Erfolgaussichten für eine volkswirtschaftlich effiziente Privatisierung der staatlichen Großunternehmen, wobei im Kern drei Problemkreise ausgemacht wurden.
