Abstract
Das World Wide Web (WWW) wurde Anfang der 90-ziger Jahre als Informationssystem für statische Dokumente entwickelt. Seit dieser Zeit fand eine enorme Entwicklung statt, treibende Kraft war der Erfolg im kommerziellen Bereich. Viele Anwendungen wie Informationssysteme oder Buchungssysteme werden zurzeit auf Web-basierte Systeme umgestellt. Der Web-Browser ist auf dem Weg, das universelle Front-End für viele Anwendungen zu werden. Web-basierte Techniken und Middleware Plattformen wie CORBA oder DCOM ergänzen sich sehr gut und verändern die Entwicklung verteilter Anwendungen. Es gibt wohl keine andere Innovation auf dem Gebiet der Informatik, welche in so kurzer Zeit eine so große Verbreitung gefunden hat.
