Summary

The work performed in the BMBF Hypersonic Technology Program included the design of a drone with ramjet propulsion for flight Mach numbers M = 3.5−6.8. Due to the fuselage precompression, the Mach number in the intake plane is reduced to M0 ≈ 6. For this drone, a 2-D mixed compression intake with a design Mach number MDFS = 6.2 has been designed. Originally, it was planned to test the full scale intake (capture area AC = 0.48 * 0.48 m2), designated ETM3, in the wind tunnel APTU at AEDC. In this wind tunnel, the complete RAM proulsion was to be tested in a second test phase. After the full scale tests have been cancelled, a 1/4.97 scale model of this intake (ETM3M) was defined For comparison with ETM3M, 2 alternative configurations for the same operating range were designed (model ETM3AL by Dasa, ETM3AT by TsAGI). These intake models were manufactured at TsAGI and tested in the wind tunnel SVS-2 at M0 = 3.5−6.0. In addition to the tests at TsAGI, ETM3M was also tested at DLR Cologne in the wind tunnel TMK. Test results are presented and the role of CFD is highlighted.
