Zusammenfassung
Heutzutage wird bei der Darstellung der Informationstechniken (IT) häufig von einer “Revolution” in der Technologie gesprochen. Einige Autoren beziehen sich dabei auf die theoretische Perspektive — z.B. Ökonomen, die glauben, es handele sich um die nächste Kondratief-Welle (Freeman et al., 1984). Sie argumentieren, daß die IT die nächste wichtige “lange Welle” in der globalen ökonomischen Entwicklung darstellen. Sicherlich haben solche Techniken auf der Ebene der einzelnen Herstellungs — und Dienstleistungsunternehmen einen großen Einfluß auf viele Bereiche, die gemeinhin mit Wettbewerbsfähigkeit assoziiert werden — Preis, Qualität, Flexibilität etc. Auch auf Seiten der Ausstattung mit solchen Techniken zeichnet sich eine große Veränderung ab. So beläuft sich z.B. im Herstellungsbereich die Wachstumsrate von Geräten, die mit IT zu tun haben, auf jährlich 20% mit einem absehbaren Verkaufspotential von mehreren Milliarden US-$ bis 1990.
