A Precise North South Alpine Gravity Profile for Determining Present Vertical Movements

Abstract

It is proposed to establish a north-south precise gravity profile of selected stations between München and Verona along a levelling line of the alpine levelling net. Groups of stations at different places of the anticipated uplift curve are established with gravity differences ≈ O, which admits an optimal measuring accuracy; this method up to now has been applied only for east-west-profiles. A remeasurement after 10 … 20 years will detect the gravity change caused by uplift and mass change. The paper deals with some details of the design of the profile and the instrumental preparations.
