Zusammenfassung

Die Präsidentenwahl im Dezember 1965 brachte de Gaulle nicht den erhofften Triumph. Erst im 2. Wahlgang konnte er sich gegen seinen sozialistischen Gegenkandidat Mitterand durchsetzen. Durch dieses 2. Septennat des Generals sollte auch eigentlich die Verteidigungspolitik ihre Kontinuität behalten. Doch bereits vor dem Rücktritt Charles de Gaulles und der Übernahme des Präsidentenamtes durch Georges Pompidou machten sich Tendenzen bemerkbar, die auf einen Wandel in der Verteidigungspolitik der V. Republik hindeuteten. Durch die Übernahme des Ressorts Landesverteidigung im Sommer 1969 hat Michel Debré zweierlei deutlich machen wollen:
