Abstract
The design process of open distributed systems starts with the problem and finally leads to a physical implementation solving the problem. In between, depending on the refinement of the design process, there is a varying number of design stages. Figure 1.1 shows a coarse model for the design process with two intermediate documents, the requirement specification and the operational specification.
