Zusammenfassung
Die in diesem Kapitel dargestellten differentialgeometrischen Modelle stammen mit einer Ausnahme aus dem vergangenen Jahrhundert. Sie repräsentieren insofern die Differentialgeometrie jener Zeit, als die Flächen des dreidimensionalen euklidischen Raumes noch im Mittelpunkt des Interesses standen. Wie in den meisten diesbezüglichen Arbeiten des 19. Jahrhunderts ist auch in den, folgenden Beiträgen die Krümmung ein zentraler Begriff. Sie wird als Hauptkrümmung, Normalkrümmung, Gaußsche und mittlere Krümmung auftreten. Besondere Beachtung werden Krümmungslinien als Linien maximaler bzw. minimaler Normalkrümmung und geodätische Linien als Kurven verschwindender geodätischer Krümmung finden.
