Abstract
Past studies in insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus have shown that the duration of disease and the level of hyperglycaemia are correlated with the onset of micro- and macroangiopathic complications (1,2,3). This observation indicated that patients should be treated with intensive insulin therapy to obtain blood glucose control which mimics the physiological model.
