Regulatory Role of the Adrenergic Synapse Within a Neural Circuit

  • Chapter
Biomedical and Life Physics

Abstract

Coordination of function in the small bowel is managed by the autonomic nervous system which provides the neurogenic regulation by the directed propagation of the electric nerve-pulse within structural elements (neurones). According to the morphofunctional principles of organization it belongs to the class of neuronal networks in which the interaction among neurones is maintained not only by electrical but also by the chemical mechanisms of transsynaptic propagation. The physiological significance of excitatory — inhibitory interactions among neurones is to quantify the transmitter output so that a precise amount of information coded as an electrochemical signal can be passed or gaited in the synaptic zone.
