Zusammenfassung

Im Kapitel 12 werden Verfahren, die in Lokalen Netzen (LANs — L ocal A rea N etworks) eingesetzt werden, vorgestellt. Die Abhandlung folgt in etwa der geschichtlichen Entwicklung. Einführend werden Pollingverfahren (Sendeaufruf) behandelt. Es folgen stochastische Verfahren (CSMA — C arrier S ense M ultiple A ccess-Varianten) und deterministische Verfahren (Token Bus, Token Ring). Einer kurzen Abhandlung der Vernetzung (WAN — W ide A rea N etworks) folgen die schnellen Netze (MANs — M etropolitan A rea N etworks, HSLANs — H igh S peed LANs). Als Repräsentanten der schnellen Netze werden FDDI — (F iber D istributed D ata I nterface), DQDB — (D istributed Q ueue D ual B us), CRMA — (C yclic R eservation M ultiple A ccess) und ATM Ring — (A synchronous T ransfer M ode Ring) vorgestellt. Die Abhandlung ist so gefaßt, daß einerseits die Protokolle besprochen, andererseits die Systemkonzepte und Systemeigenschaften vorgestellt und auch die technologischen Einflüsse aufgezeigt werden.
