Die klassische Informationstheorie (information theory) wurde von C.E. Shannon im Jahre 1950 begründet. Sie ist eigentlich eine Kommunikationstheorie (wie auch der Original-Titel belegt: “A mathematical theory of communication”), da sie nicht die Semantik der Nachrichten betrachtet.
