Abstract

Britain is planning to spend an additional £6 million over the next four years on a programme to increase her cultural contacts with other European countries. The programme will not be confined to the traditional areas of education and the arts. It also encompasses youth exchanges, exchanges of young workers, exchange between women’s organisations and an increase in town-twinning. There are plans to set up a European Discussion Centre in the United Kingdom alongside the existing Wilton Park Conference Centre, and it is hoped that a British Cultural Centre will be established in Paris. Increased attention will be given to language teaching.
