Zusammenfassung
Sherlock Holmes machte einmal über London folgende Bemerkung: „Inmitten der Aktionen und Reaktionen einer so dichten Menschenmasse muß man damit rechnen, daß jede nur mögliche Kombination von Ereignissen eintreten kann, und so manch eines der auftretenden Probleme wird überraschend und bizarr sein. …“ Setzt man „mathematische Elemente“ anstelle von „Menschenmassen“, so ist diese Bemerkung des großen Detektivs keine schlechte Beschreibung der kombinatorischen Mathematik.
