Abstract

The classical relativistic expression for the synchrotron radiation spectrum has been generalized to include quantum corrections up to second order in ℏω/E [1]. The modifications can be traced to the discrete nature of the emission act and thus arise from conservation of energy and momentum at the vertex. In order to exhibit the relevance of the quantum effects let us first briefly review the salient features of the classical treatment.
