Zusammenfassung

In der Theorie und Erforschung der räumlichen Strukturierung von Aktivitäten dominieren heute zwei Paradigmen. Das erste, das wir als Dekonzentrationsansatz (Berry 1976, Frey 1987, Hawley 1971, Wardwell 1980) bezeichnen wollen, betont die Bedeutung von Distanz, Erreichbarkeit und der entsprechenden Rolle von Transportund Kommunikationstechnologien für die Überwindung von Entfernungen. Der Dekonzentrationsansatz behauptet, die räumliche Strukturierung von Aktivitäten im allgemeinen und städtische Agglomerations- und Deagglomerationsprozesse im besonderen seien bestimmt durch die jeweiligen Kommunikations- und Transporttechnologien. Der zweite Ansatz, der Umstrukturierungsansatz (Stanback and Noyelle 1984, Castells 1985), konzentriert sich auf die wirtschaftliche Transformation, auf den Wandel in der Zusammensetzung der ausgeübten Aktivitäten als wesentlichen, Agglomerations- und Deagglomerationsprozessen zugrundeliegenden Faktor. Dieser Ansatz geht davon aus, daß menschliche und physische Ressourcen (die Inputs von Transaktionen) sowie der Bedarf an ihnen die Muster der Zu- und Abnahme von Aktivitäten bestimmen. Diese Ressourcen sind ungleichmäßig verteilt und in unterschiedlichem Grade transportierbar, während Aktivitäten ungleichmäßig an bestimmte Ressourcen gebunden sind.
