Industrieroboter sind ein Mittel zur Automatisierung in der Fertigung. Ihre möglichen Tätigkeiten in der Fertigung, eingeteilt nach DIN 85 80, könnten sich nach Bild 2.1 ergeben. Da Industrieroboter sehr universell einsetzbar sind, eignen sie sich zur Automatisierung sowohl kleiner und mittlerer vor allem aber großer Serien.
