Zusammenfassung
Könige sind keine guten Philosophen und Philosophen keine guten Könige. Oder, in den Worten eines modernen Soziologen: Die funktionalen Vorbedingungen von Macht und Wissen sind inkompatibel. Indem wir von diesem strukturellen Unterschied ausgehen, stellen wir die Frage, wie die Beziehung zwischen den gesellschaftlichen Kontrollzentren und den auf Wissensproduktion spezialisierten gesellschaftlichen Einheiten den gesamtgesellschaftlichen Aktivitätsgrad beeinflußt. Die Antwort hängt, wie wir sehen werden, von der Organisation der Wissensproduktion selbst, der Struktur des Zugangs zu den Machtpositionen und der Möglichkeit zu fundamentaler Kritik ab. Die an diesem Prozeß beteiligten Akteure sind die politischen Eliten, die Intellektuellen, die Experten und die verschiedenen Öffentlichkeiten. Ihre wechselseitigen Beziehungen müssen in jede Untersuchung von Wissen und Macht eingeschlossen werden.
