Unter Sigmund Freuds vielen neuen Formulierungen spielen die Emotionen eine zentrale Rolle. Frühere Konzepte operierten hauptsächlich mit kognitiven Prozessen, und das Gefühlsleben, zum Beispiel die vielen Varianten der Angstphänomene, wurde nicht erwähnt.
