Zusammenfassung

Still kamen die Gäste, in ihre dunklen Wintermäntel und Pelze gekleidet, zu der backsteinroten Presbyterierkirche in der schicken Upper East Side von Manhattan. Sie drängten sich in den Innenraum, und gegen drei Uhr gab es in der Kirche nur noch Stehplätze, während etwa 200 Menschen, darunter eine große Gruppe von Journalisten, außerhalb des Gebäudes versammelten waren und das Geschehen im Inneren über Femsehschirme verfolgten. An beiden Seiten der Straße parkten, von einem Ende des Straßenblocks bis zum anderen, schwarze verdunkelte Limousinen. Vor den Kirchentoren standen einige Polizisten Wache.
