Zusammenfassung
Das Thema „Virtualisierung der Stadtplanung“, wirft einige semantische Fragen auf. Das Oxford Dictionary definiert ‘virtual’ als „not physically existing as such but made by software to appear to do so“. Bedeutet Virtualisierung der Stadtplanung also ihr Verschwinden bzw. ihre Ersetzung durch etwas, das nur virtuell, das heißt im Cyberspace existiert? Oder bedeutet Virtualisierung der Stadtplanung die Erweiterung ihrer Möglichkeiten, auf virtuelle, noch nicht existierende Zukunftsalternativen zuzugreifen, also eine Verstärkung ihres utopischen Potentials? Oder, und das haben die Veranstalter wahrscheinlich gemeint, bedeutet sie den Übergang zu einer Stadtplanung des Virtuellen (Immateriellen)? Oder sind mögliche Produktivitätsgewinne durch Informationstechnik gemeint, durch die Sachbearbeiter ‘virtuell’ gemacht, also im Sinne einer ‘Verschlankung’ der Verwaltung wegrationalisiert werden?
