Zusammenfassung
Der Begriff Kultur gehört zu den Problembereichen der Soziologie, die am intensivsten kontroversen Meinungen unterliegen. Dabei ist Kultur nicht der zentrale Forschungsgegenstand der Soziologie, er ist vielmehr sowohl für die Kulturanthropologie als auch für die Ethnologie von weitaus größerem Interesse. Zur Vermeidung häufig auftretender Mißverständnisse muß einleitend betont werden, daß der wissenschaftliche Kulturbegriff nichts gemein hat mit dem Alltagsverständnis dieses Ausdrucks, ebensowenig wie andererseits der im Verlauf der Entwicklung der bürgerlichen Gesellschaft (insbesondere in Deutschland) gebildete Gegensatz Kultur — Zivilisation eine Konstruktion darstellt, die außerhalb ihrer wissenssoziologischen Entstehungsbedingungen hinaus für die Soziologie relevant sein kann.
