Zusammenfassung
Die EZB wurde am 1. Juli 1998 als Nachfolgerin des Europäischen Währungsinstituts (EWI) gegründet. Sie hat ihren Sitz in Frankfurt am Main. Sie trägt seit dem 01.01.1999 die Verantwortung für die Geldpolitik im Euroland. Eigentümer der EZB sind die nationalen Notenbanken (Artikel 18 der Maastrichter Verträge; vgl. Europäische Union, 1995). Über den größten Anteil verfugt die Deutsche Bundesbank mit rund 24%, gefolgt von der Banque de France mit 17% (vgl. EZB, 1998d).
