Zusammenfassung
Die Einführung des Digitalen Fernsehens wurde im Wesentlichen durch die Spezifikationen des Europäischen Digital Video Broadcasting Projekts — kurz DVB-Projekt — vorangetrieben (DVB, 2004), die über das Europäische Standardisierungsinstitut ETSI (ETSI, 2004) als Standard weltweit zur Verfügung stehen und während der gut zehnjährigen Entwicklung dieses Projekts eine große internationale Bedeutung erlangt haben. Daher werden heute die Begriffe „Digitales (interaktives) Fernsehen“ und „DVB“ häufig als Synonyme benutzt.
