Zusammenfassung

Obwohl Unternehmensnetzwerke kein neues Phänomen sind, denn bereits im Mittelalter existierten netzwerkartige Formen der zwischenbetrieblichen Organisation, haben sie in den letzten Jahren eine stärkere Verbreitung und Aufmerksamkeit gefunden. Etwa gleichzeitig mit der Ausweitung von Unternehmensnetzwerken sind Informationssysteme und Telekommunikationsinfrastrukturen geschaffen worden, die die Abwicklung von Geschäftstransaktionen zwischen Unternehmen unterstützen. Diese zwischenbetrieblich genutzten Informationssysteme, sogenannte Interorganisationssysteme (IOS), bei denen es vor allem um die gemeinsame Nutzung von Informationen sowie um den Austausch von geschäftsbezogenen Nachrichten (EDI: electronic data interchange) geht, stehen hier im Vordergrund.
